Making Lifestyle Changes to Lose Weight
We all know that losing weight is hard. It seems as though we try everything we read online, spend hours at the gym or doing workout videos, try every diet available, we still don’t succeed. The reason why it’s so hard to lose weight is that diets don’t work. Yes, you may lose weight while on a diet, but as soon as you go off the diet, you gain the weight back.
The secret to losing weight is to actually make lifestyle changes. First, change what you eat and how often you eat; next, set a regular schedule of physical activity. Once you get into a routine of healthier habits, it will be easier to lose weight and keep it off.
To determine what changes you need to make to your diet, keep a food diary for a week; write down everything you eat and drink. Don’t make any changes yet, just take an honest look at your current eating habits. At the end of week, look over your meals, snacks and drinks that you consumed over the week. How much of what you ate was processed foods? Did you eat out a lot? Are you drinking a lot of soda, sugary drinks or caffeine?
The best way to improve your dietary habits is to eat healthy foods. Limit your selections to meals that contain 4 or less ingredients, and with ingredients that you can pronounce. Eat more natural ingredients, such as fruits and vegetables. Fruits and veggies contain a lot of natural vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help keep our bodies working efficiently.
Eliminating processed foods from your diet is a must. They contain so many chemicals that our bodies cannot process so our body stores them as fat instead. Drinking and eating a lot of drinks or foods with high fructose corn syrup is one of the worst for making us fat. HFCS is not the same as sugar; our bodies can’t digest it, and stores the sugars as fat on our bodies.
In addition to changing your dietary habits, you also need to work out. Most of us are busy people; we have jobs, kids, and basic life that can all interfere with going to the gym, or doing traditional work out videos. So how can you integrate physical activity into your daily routine? You can go for walks in the evening, walk on your lunch break at work, and do all of those little tricks like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, park further from the door and walk to the store instead of driving.
Don’t get too discouraged when you’re trying to lose weight. Stay away from the fad diets, and make actual lifestyle changes instead. You will lose weight, and your health will benefit as well!
