Weight When Breast Feeding
Many women who are breast feeding are generally concerned
about their weight. Weight gain when breast feeding
is quite common and it is important to realise that
it is normal. However, if you are breast feeding your
little one, you may not want to lose too much too quickly.
Your nutrition is essential for your baby's
nutrition.
As far as your caloric intake is concerned you need
to look at eating about 1,500-1,800 calories a day.
This amount is also sufficient for your baby's
needs. Remember, your baby is the number one priority
at this time. Your baby does not get the necessary nutrition
if you are not eating enough.
Your main focus however, should be on what you eat
not how much. This way you and your baby have a balanced
diet. It is also recommended that you take a vitamin
supplement as well. Also, be sure to stay away from
too many sugars and additives that are empty in nutritional
value. You also need to increase your amount of daily
fluids. Breast feeding can make you dehydrated; water
is your best option for hydration.
If you are concerned about your weight, don't
worry! You still can lose weight while breast feeding.
Typically, if you breast feed for at least three months,
you will see the best results. In fact, breast feeding
actually increases weight reduction. Keep in mind it
is a good thing that you have some extra weight for
your baby's nutrition. If you do decide to plan
on losing weight, limit it. Slowly is much better you
don't want to decrease too much for your baby's
health. For instance, if you lose weight too quickly,
you will reduce your body's milk supply. An important
thing to know is that you should wait at least until
your baby is two months old before losing weight.
An important point to note is that you should choose
your weight loss method wisely. If you opt for a quick
weight loss routine, you may be putting your newborn
at risk. Fast weight loss makes your body's vitamin
supply go down. Make sure you lose weight the healthy
and natural way.
Using diet pills or other fast weight loss methods increases your body’s health risk. It is important to remember that your health is also your baby’s at this point. If you speculate that your baby is not getting enough nutrition, consult your doctor. You may not be producing enough milk to meet your baby’s needs.
