Carbohydrates are quite possibly the most misunderstood of
the nutrients along with fat. It too has been vilified as
the reason as why Americans are overweight when in fact that
can be blamed on a lack of dietary willpower and lack of activity.
As it is with all things, too much of a good thing can end

All carbohydrates serve the tremendous purpose of providing
energy to the body's tissues. More specifically,
carbohydrates provide energy for the brain and its central
nervous system as well as the muscle cells in the form of
glucose.
Structurally, carbohydrates consist of chains of carbon,
hydrogen, and oxygen which can come in a vast multitude of
configurations to form plant foods such as wheat, potatoes,
and plums.
There are only two types of carbohydrates total: simple carbs
and complex carbs. Simple carbohydrates are sugars whose bonds
are easily broken via digestion. Sugars are found in all fruits,
some vegetables and honey among other things. There are two
